Key Stage 3 Case Study
Student Details
Name: "M"
Teaching considerations: ADHD Diagnosis
Education Level: Year 8, Key stage 3
Support period: 5 weeks, whilst awaiting new school placement
Local Authorty Contact: Outcomes Co-Ordinator
Programme Details
The programme began with the provision of an EHCP by the Outcomes Co-Ordinator and an initial brief. Our responsibility was to provide 30 hours of online Maths and English tutoring and to support the student in achieving the following goals:
- To attend 90% of lessons
- To engage with learning
We selected the tutor from our extensive bank of qualified tutors, based on their experience, subject knowledge and SEN training. They were briefed on the student EHCP aspects and goals and they planned their introduction lesson.
Our Delivery Team completed parent outreach to agree the tuition delivery schedule (2 hour lesson at 10am every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for five weeks).
The tutor delivered an introduction lesson and baseline assessment, determining:
- Student performing at early KS3 level due to persistent absence
- Align English and Maths content to Y7/Y8
- Build engagement through students interest in graffiti art
The tutor created their five week tutoring plan to cover:
- Maths: Place Value, Equivalent Fractions, Number Concepts and Angle Properties
- English: Literary Devices, Descriptive Openings, Point, Evidence & Explanation, text analysis and information gathering
- General Interest: Research facts and aspects of graffiti art. Use content from English tuition to summarise findings
Our standard end of programme review found:
- Student Attendance = 97%
- Average Engagement Score (between 1 and 3, 3 being the highest engagement) = 2.1 (Engagement exceed expectation)
