Fledge tuition for parents

We understand that parents may have questions about Fledge and online tuition before allowing us to support their children through our school programmes. We have listed some common questions and answers below. Click on the question to reveal the answer.

Who are Fledge?

Fledge is a Depoartment for Education assured tuition provider. We have delivered over 50,000 student hours of tuition since 2019 and are an approved provider on the governments National Tutoring Programme.

At Fledge Tuition, we are committed to supporting children and young people to meet their full potential. We believe the way to achieve this is to offer students the opportunity to access top quality tuition delivered 100% online. Unlike many online tutoring companies we offer our students the chance to learn and grow through fantastic learning experiences from expert, qualified teachers.

Who are your tutors?

Each of our tutors is a fully qualified and experienced school teacher based in the UK.

All our tutors have followed a strict Safer Recruitment process, including criminal record, teacher status and reference checks. All teachers also have an enhanced DBS check. The online classroom software we use is private and safe.

What are the benefits of online tuition?

Evidence shows tuition is effective at improving outcomes for students and this is even more true for students that are finding that particular subject a bit of a struggle.

Research shows 84% of students reported that online tutoring was more effective or as effective as in-person tuition. 73% of parents agreed that their child had received better grades as a result of online tutoring.

Benefits of your child receiving online tutoring from Fledge include:

  1. Excellent teaching. Your child can benefit from interacting in real-time with experienced teaching professionals who clearly explain instruction, answer questions and provide timely feedback. This support will bridge knowledge gaps in core subjects and help your child improve at school online tutoring because all the materials they will cover are related to the core curriculum and are designed to improve the progression and achievement in that subject.
  2. Quality of learning relationship. A qualified teacher that's there to support your child. You also have the ability to rate your tutor so if things aren't working or it's not a good match you can switch. The tutoring experience is not only about national curriculum learning material that your child needs to know about to do well at school but a good tutor will also provide your child with expert advice and support. Sessions are either in small groups or 1:1 so your child benefits from more personal attention.
  3. Accessibility. Through online tutoring, students are able to access high-quality teaching from anywhere. Whether you live in the countryside or in a big city your child can access additional, free support to help them do better in school.
  4. Comfort and convenience. We offer the opportunity for your child to learn in the comfort of your own home so you can access expert tutors without travel hassle.

What do I need to access tuition?

1. The internet Our tuition will be delivered online using our classroom software so you must be able to get online.

Some families have been in touch with us recently to let us know that they have had their internet at home suspended or cancelled due to tight family finances, which is understandable given how expensive everything is at the moment. So if you don’t have the internet or a phone that can connect to the internet please do get in touch as we may be able to help.

2. A device Your child will get the most out of their online tuition if you have a computer at home as they’ll have a bigger screen to be able to see what’s going on so the best option is to join on a computer or laptop. It doesn’t need to be the latest model as you don’t need to download any fancy software to access the classroom software. Any computer will do.

If you don’t have a computer do get in touch as we may be able to help and you may be able to borrow one from the school.

If all else fails your child can join the sessions via a smartphone. Again it doesn’t need to be the latest model as long as it can connect to 3G or 4G to run the software and it has a working mic and speaker so if you can use it to get onto Facebook or to make calls you’ll be fine.

3. The right browser When you go online you use a browser. If you have an iPhone and/or a Mac computer you’re probably using Safari to access the internet. If you have an Android phone such as a Samsung you are probably using Google Chrome to access the internet. If you have a Windows computer you might be using Internet Explorer.

We recommend you use either Safari or Chrome to access our online software as they are modern and tend to have less problems with joining. And you might want to make sure you have the latest versions.

Find out more about downloading/updating Safari here Find out more about downloading/updating Chrome here

4. Other hardware It’s not essential but we find students often find it useful to have a pair of headphones so they can hear their tutors clearly. If you don’t have headphones though don’t let that put you off from joining.

Can I access a userguide to help understand how to use your online classrooms system?
